Tourists in Denmark

Parking restrictions apply in most towns and cities in Denmark.

Parking disc

A parking disc must be used in areas where parking is time-limited and no ticket machine is available. This will be indicated by signage.

Only one parking disc may be used per vehicle, and it must be clearly displayed in the windshield.

The parking disc must have a pointer that is set to the time when parking begins. A digital parking disc may also be used.

Parking discs can be purchased at petrol stations, post offices, and tourist offices.

Parking on streets and in car parks

Parking restrictions apply in most towns and cities in Denmark. Parking regulations are clearly signposted.

In areas with free parking, time restrictions are always indicated on signs:

  • Hours written in black or white apply to weekdays
  • Hours shown in brackets apply to Saturdays
  • Hours written in red apply to Sundays and public holidays

Private car parks have their own parking rules and fees.

Stopping is only permitted on the right-hand side of the street and is prohibited on main roads and motorways.

Parking is not permitted within 10 metres of a junction, measured from the nearest corner of the intersecting road or cycle path. This 10-metre rule applies to all junctions.

Parking is prohibited on cycle paths and pedestrian crossings.

Parking is prohibited at bus stops where the kerb is painted yellow or within 12 metres of a bus stop sign.

Parking tickets

Vehicles parked in violation of parking regulations may be issued a parking ticket.
